The “Failing To Document” Fiasco… | Oklahoma

The following is a video transcript.

Hello, this is Robert Robles, Independent Program Attorney for U.S. LawShield in the State of Oklahoma. I would like to talk to you today about the unfortunate event of having your gun stolen.

Neither the federal government nor the State of Oklahoma require a gun to be reported to the authorities. There is no gun registration law in the State of Oklahoma, so what should you do? It is very important for you to do the following for many reasons which I will outline:

You should report the loss of your gun when it is stolen like a crime incident report made to the police. You are required to give them the make, the model, and the serial number of your gun. The form will ask you to state the value of the gun and whether or not there are any distinguishing marks (such as features, attachments, or special sights).

After you have made the report to the police of your missing or stolen gun, the most important thing is that you have done your due diligence in reporting to the authorities that you no longer own the gun. Should the firearm be turned up at the scene of a bank robbery, a murder, any heinous crime, or any minor crime, even though you might be a suspect of having complicity with this crime you certainly will be on record as having stated to the authorities you no longer have possession of the gun, it is not in your hands, and that it was stolen. You should immediately report it.
