If you’ve recently misplaced your Concealed Carry Weapons (“CCW”) card, you can apply for a replacement card at your local sheriff’s office or police department. There is a $10 fee to replace lost permit cards. You will need to bring with you a current driver’s license or non-driver’s license with your current name and address.
WHAT THE LAW SAYS
If you lose or misplace your CCW, the law in Missouri requires you to notify the Chief of Police in your city or county of residence within seven days. Your replacement permit will be issued after a three-day processing period, following your payment of the $10 fee.
ADVANTAGES OF HAVING A CCW
Having a CCW permit carries with it certain advantages and expanded rights. For example, a CCW holder who accidentally carries into a prohibited place where state law prohibits the carrying of firearms, is not committing a crime. The CCW holder may be asked to leave, and if they refuse to leave, may be cited for trespassing. The maximum fine for a first offense is $100. A person carrying permitless is committing a criminal offense if they carry in a prohibited place.
Another expanded right that CCW holders enjoy is that under state law, they can open carry in municipalities which have passed laws prohibiting the open carry of firearms. CCW holders in Missouri also enjoy reciprocity with many other states. Currently, there are 36 other states which recognize Missouri CCW permits.
If you have applied for a Missouri CCW permit, or lost yours and are awaiting a replacement, but have not yet received it, remember that your permit is not active until it has been issued and in your possession. Your carry rights still fall under the provisions of permitless carry until your CCW has been received by you.
