Oh Deer! It’s Deer Season | Florida

The following is a video transcript.

Deer hunting season is here, and hunters have been preparing for several months leading up to their trips. But when was the last time you refreshed your knowledge of gun laws for deer season? Here are the top three things you need to have ready to stay on the right side of the law.

NUMBER 1: NEW BAG LIMITS

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has passed new deer hunting rules that went into effect at the beginning of crossbow season in Zone A on August 3rd of this year. There is now an annual statewide bag limit of five deer, only two of which may be antlerless. Antlerless deer are defined as any deer, except spotted fawn, without antlers, or whose antlers are less than five inches in length.

Although there is an annual bag limit of two antlerless deer, it is important you remember that antlerless deer may only be taken during seasons when they are legal to take or on antlerless deer days.

NUMBER 2: DEER HARVEST LOG

The new rules require all hunters to report deer they harvest. This includes youth hunters, resident hunters who are over 65, disability-licensed hunters, and military personnel. It even includes those hunting on their homestead property.

NUMBER 3: TAGGING ANTLERLESS DEER

All antlerless deer taken on lands enrolled in the Antlerless Deer Permit Program must be tagged with an issued antlerless deer tag, even if they are harvested on a day when the taking of antlerless deer is otherwise allowed. Additionally, the deer must be recorded on the harvest log and reported to the FWC (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission) harvest reporting system by the hunter who harvested the deer.

For more information on changes to the deer hunting rules, please visit the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website.

If you have any questions regarding these new rules, please give U.S. LawShield a call and ask to speak with your Independent Program Attorney.
